JAMES THORNTON, SR.

October 18, 1914 — April 23, 2005

We regret to announce the passing of James Earl Thornton, age 90, of Dawson, GA who passed away Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the Donalsonville Church of God with Rev. Stan Long and Rev. Fletcher Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow at the Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA. Visitation will be held Monday, April 25, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA. Mr. Thornton was born in Miller County, GA on October 18, 1914 to the late Byran Sumpter and Carrie Lee Tabb Thornton. He had lived in Sasser, GA for the past 20 years. A member of East Albany Church of God and also a member of the CC camps of Miller County. A big supporter of St. Jude's Hospital. He helped build the road to the tallest mountain in the State of Georgia, which is at Brasstown Ball in White County, GA. Mr. Thornton leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ester Thornton of Sasser, GA; three sons James E. Thornton, Jr. and his wife Dale of Cleveland, GA; David J. Thornton and his wife Lisa of Blakely, Ga and Eddie Frank (Pete) Thornton of Donalsonville, GA; one daughter Patricia Diane Sears of Donalsonville, GA. He is also survived by four grandchildren Tony Sears, James E. Thornton, III, Kimberly N. Bearden, Karly McClain and six great grandchildren Robbie Sears, Tony Sears, Jr., Samantha Sears, Trey McClain, Meagan McClain and Gracie Thornton. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
