BETTY REVELLS MURKERSON

We regret to announce the passing of Betty Sue Revells Murkerson, age 83, of Donalsonville, GA formerly of Jakin, GA. Mrs. Murkerson passed away Tuesday morning, September, 24, 2013 in Seminole Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Betty will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Springfield Baptist Church in Jakin, GA with Rev. Fred Odom officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Jakin, GA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, September 25, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Betty was born in Black, AL on September 30, 1929 to Joe B. Johnson and Vera Holland Johnson. She worked for many years as the head cashier at Newberry’s Piggly Wiggly in Donalsonville, GA. She was an active member of Springfield Baptist Church for as long as her health allowed, as well as a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. Mrs. Betty leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Shirley Revells Smallwood of Jakin, GA and Barbara Revells Weeks and her husband Bubba of Jakin, GA; three grandchildren, Joseph Smallwood, Rebecca Weeks English and her husband Mike, and Lisa Weeks; and four great grandchildren, Colt and Cheyenne Smallwood and Bethany and Emily English. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Vera Holland Johnson; her husband, Joseph B. “Coot” Revells; her second husband, J.T. Murkerson; three sisters, Bonnie Barefoot, Buel Mulkey, and Francis Fredell; and a brother, James Johnson. Active pallbearers will be Lewis Rigdon, James Wilson, Harold Pickle, Rusty Bradley, Kevin Bruner, and Darryl Bruner. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Cook, Paul Brimlow, Danny Revells, and Don Hand.
