Robert Kenneth “Bobby” Whatley, age 78, of Orlando, FL passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at his residence. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Whatley will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Michael Wingertsahn officiating. Interment will follow there in the family plot. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville. Mr. Whatley was born in Donalsonville, GA on March 5, 1936 to James Corbitt Whatley, SR and Ola Virginia Hall Whatley. He graduated from Florida High School in 1954 where he played basketball, baseball and football. He was a two-time All North Florida Conference Basketball selection and an All NFC Football star. He was later drafted by the NBA and the Major Leagues, but an injury forced him to give up the sports he loved. Mr. Whatley graduated from Chipola Junior College in Marianna, FL with an AA Degree and attended North Central College in Naperville, IL. He retired from Barnett Bank after a long and successful career. He was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Whatley leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Robert Warner Whatley and his wife Anita of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Lisa Sconyers and her husband Rick of Orlando, FL; and a sister, Nell Helms of Georgia.. He is also survived by his loving granddaughters, Adrianna and Amanda Whatley and Megan and Jessica Sconyers. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Corbitt Whatley and Ola Virginia Hall Whatley, as well as two brothers, J.C. Whatley and Leonard J, Whatley.
