THOMAS HOWARD"DON" SPOONER

Thomas Howard "Don" Spooner, age 90, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 1, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Spooner will be held on Friday afternoon, April 3, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Charles Dennis and Rev. Garth Duke-Barton officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery with Charles Spooner, Leonard Spooner, Everett (Tuddy) Alday, Tommy Alday, Lewis Godby, Marlon James, Melvin Fox, and Dr. Mike Carr serving as active casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be members of the Walker/Webb Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM. Mr. Spooner was born in Donalsonville, GA on October 30, 1924 to Joseph Carl Spooner, Sr. and Lola Widner Spooner. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a farmer. Mr. Spooner was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Walker/Webb Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Seminole County Farm Bureau for many years, serving as that organization's President in 1983. Mr. Spooner was named as Man of the Year for Soil and Water Conservationist in 1969, and after retiring from his farming operation in 1992, he worked for a number of years with Cargill. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Joanna H. Spooner of Donalsonville, GA; a daughter, Melody Kennedy and her husband Stan of Donalsonville, GA; a step-son, Troy Bush of Iron City, GA; four grandchildren, Karen Kennedy Rogerson and her husband Michael Jon of Donalsonville, GA, Zackery Conoly and his wife Nichole of Donalsonville, GA, Taylor Boone Kennedy of Donalsonville, GA, and Kimberly Nicole Kennedy of Valdosta, GA; one great-grandchild, Brody Evan Rogerson of Donalsonville, GA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Carl Spooner, Sr. and Lola Widner Spooner; the mother of his children, Elizabeth "Betty" Wiley Spooner; a daughter, Donna Elizabeth Spooner Conoly; a great-grandchild, Zoey Grace Conoly; a brother, Joseph Carl Spooner, Jr.; and four sisters, Euna Elizabeth Gibson, Louise Godby, Sybil Alday, and Mary Virginia Lynn. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Friendship United Methodist Church PO Box 305 Donalsonville, GA 39845.
