JOHN PHILLIP SPOONER, SR.

August 4, 1946 — March 6, 2016

John Phillip Spooner, Sr., age 69, of Destin, FL and formerly of Donalsonville, GA passed away Sunday morning, March 6, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Spooner will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Rocky Ridge Baptist Church with Jarod Fulford and Rev. Perry Hearn officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery with Gene Cook, Rushy Scott, John Mosley, Jonathan N. Glisson, Dee Broome, and Edward Fiveash serving as active casketbearers. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, March 8, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA. Mr. Spooner was born in Donalsonville, GA on August 4, 1946 to John Ira Spooner, Jr. and Flora Holland Spooner. He was active in Little League baseball and Dixie Youth baseball while growing up in Seminole County, even traveling to play in the Little League World Series. Mr. Spooner played high school baseball in Seminole County, as well as being an accomplished livestock showman winning numerous accolades. He was a Triple Palm Eagle Scout and received the God and Country Award. Mr. Spooner graduated from the University of GA with a Masters Degree in Education and a minor in Animal Science. He coached high school baseball for a couple of years before engaging in farming full time. He continued to volunteer with the Little League program and the high school baseball program for a number of years in Seminole County. Mr. Spooner was a former Soil and Water Conservationist Man of the Year on several occasions. He was an avid fisherman and GA Bulldog fan. Mr. Spooner was a former member of Rocky Ridge Baptist Church and was a current member of Village Baptist Church in Destin, FL. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Julie Gordon Spooner of Destin, FL; his children, Sheryl Phillips and her husband Les, Jr., Carol Houston, Celesta Boyd and her husband Patrick, John Phillip Spooner, Jr., Jarod Fulford and Anna, and Crystal Henry and Justin all of Donalsonville, GA; and his grandchildren, Trey Phillips, Shane Phillips, Sierra Houston, David Pollock, Jr., Leanne Pollock, Donnie Boyd, and Camden Fulford. Mr. Spooner was preceded in death by his parents, John Ira Spooner, Jr. and Flora Holland Spooner; two brothers, Jim Spooner and John I. Spooner, III; two sisters, Elizabeth Annette Spooner and Flora Ann Spooner; and one grandchild, C.J. Polk.
