GEORGE J. BUTCHER

George J. Butcher, age 89, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Butcher will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, GA with Rev. Garth Duke-Barton officiating and members of the family sharing words for the family. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM at the church. The family requests tributes be made to Friendship United Methodist Church Manna Drop Fund PO Box 305 Donalsonville, GA 39845 in memory of George Butcher. Mr. Butcher was born Feb. 19, 1927 in Toledo, OH to George E. Butcher and Eleanor Horsman Butcher. He was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church and raised his family in that faith. George was a licensed lay reader in the Diocese of Ohio and was a Eucharistic minister and chalice bearer. He attended the University of Toledo and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having enlisted just prior to his graduation from high school. When his sons were young, he was a Boy Scout leader and a softball coach. George retired from Kitchen Design Plus of Toledo, OH in 1994 as a certified kitchen and bath design specialist. Mr. Butcher had resided in Donalsonville with his wife Dot since January of 2004. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men group and the American Legion Post #157. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 66 years, Dorothy “Dot” Burke Butcher of Donalsonville, GA; his sons, Mike Butcher and husband Gary Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, Dave Butcher and wife Nancy of Delta, OH, Don Butcher and wife Denise of Woodstock, MD, and Steve Butcher and wife Leah of Bardstown, KY; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mr. Butcher was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews who have been a very important part of his life, as well as a blessing to the entire family. Mr. Butcher was preceded in death by his parents, George E. Butcher and Eleanor Horsman Butcher.
