ALVA RAY SMITH

September 2, 1940 — April 18, 2021

Alva Ray Smith passed away on April 18, 2021 at his home in Fair Play, South Carolina. He was born on September 2, 1940 in Donalsonville, GA to Alva Green Smith and Ammie Elkins Smith. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Lucille Nall; his daughter-in-law, Dianne Marr Smith; the mother of his children, Christine Cowart Smith; and all of his siblings, including his sisters, Jean, Joyce, and Mary, and his brothers, Burnice, Samuel, Travis, and James. Ray is survived by his wife, Diane Key Smith; his son, Michael Ray Smith; his daughters, Samantha Rose Smith and Angela Humphrey; and sons-in-law, Mark Nall and Neil Humphrey. He has nine grandchildren, Amber, Trevor, Amelia, Erin, Sydney, Bella, Leola, Kyle, and Bryce; five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ray was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from BP/Amoco in 2002 after driving for them for 27 years. He received many accolades during his career and had started on his 3 million safety miles award. He loved his family, dogs, truck, and boat, not necessarily in that order. He enjoyed fishing, yard work, gardening, and fixing pretty much anything (so that it would never work again or so that he was the only one who could operate it). The family of Alva Ray Smith would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Rami Arfoosh, the VA system physicians, and Pruitt Hospice. Please join us in celebrating his life on May 15, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA. Reverend Herman Enfinger will be officiating.
