Billy Joe Newberry

Billy Joe Newberry, age 84, of Blakely, GA passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Flat Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Cory Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Stanley Brackin, Joey Brackin, Chad Brackin, Kyle Brackin, Ryan Sheffield, Trey Sheffield, Marc Newberry, Johnathan Cunningham, Ronnie Joe Shiver, and Chris Whittaker serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church at 1:00 PM. Mr. Newberry was born in Miller County, GA on April 4, 1937 to John D. Newberry and Willie Mae Welch Newberry. He worked in maintenance at Georgia Pacific and was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Newberry was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and work in his yard. He also loved his family and spending time with them. He is survived by his wife, Edna Newberry; his children, Theresa Sheffield (Tim), Marilyn Brackin (Charles), Marcus Newberry (Melissa), and Sharon Pickle (Cory); his sisters, Ruthene Newberry and Peggy Carter. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Newberry was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Newberry and Willie Mae Welch Newberry; a daughter, Sharon McClendon; his brother, John Newberry; and a sister, Betty Newberry.
