Carol Beggs Burke, age 71, of Donalsonville, Georgia, passed away peacefully after a long illness on August 1, 2026, at the Seminole Manor Nursing Home in Donalsonville.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Carol, donations may be made to Special Olympics (specialolympics.org) or to the Seminole County Public Library (swgrl.org).
Born on November 12, 1954, in Fairfax, Virginia to Edwin Gregory Beggs and Mary Olive Boggess Beggs, Carol grew up in Washington, D.C., and Cocoa, Florida, graduating from Cocoa High School in 1973. Carol went on to graduate with both a B.A. and M.A. in Special Education from Florida State University. She taught multi handicapped students in Thomasville, Georgia and Donalsonville, Georgia. For many years, she was a board member and director at Camp Arrow, a summer camp designed to meet the needs of children with disabilities. In addition to her teaching, Carol volunteered at the Donalsonville Library and was devoted to a series of Siamese cats over the years.
Carol is survived by her husband Steve Burke of Donalsonville; stepson Dallas Burke and his wife Celeste of Bainbridge, Georgia; her sister Jesse Lee Kercheval of Madison, Wisconsin; and half-sister Barbara Ann Stromberg of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, as well as nieces and nephews, Max Fuller, Magda Fuller, Eric Stromberg, and Rachel Thorson.
