Christine Sanders Gaulden

July 19, 1927 — May 13, 2018

Christine Sanders Gaulden, age 90, of Colquitt, GA and formerly of Jakin, GA passed away Sunday morning, May 13, 2018 at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Gaulden will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Jakin Baptist Church with Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating.  Interment will follow in Jakin City Cemetery with Bradley Crews, Sammy Reese, William Murkerson, Ronald Bruner, Danny Worrell, Johnny Miller, and Jerry Miller serving as active pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Steve McClellan and Tom Peters.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM at the church. Christine was born July 19, 1927, the daughter of the late Ed and Katie Brunson Sanders.  After graduation from Miller County High School she attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran and graduated from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus.  She then moved to Atlanta where she worked for Western Union.  She later moved to Jakin to teach fourth grade where she met and married Emmett Gaulden.  They were married 54 years when he predeceased her in June of 2002.  Christine was a dedicated member of Jakin Baptist Church for over 60 years.  The church was always a cornerstone for her life.  She was an adult Sunday School teacher, a president of WMU, the church clerk, a teacher in Vacation Bible School and also served on various committees through the years.  She loved serving her church and her community.  She loved Jakin and was the first elected woman councilperson and served in that position for many years.  She was treasurer of the Jakin City Cemetery fund for many years.  She was an Eastern star member of the Blakely chapter and a member of the United Daughters of the confederacy, the Ida Underwood Chapter.  She loved her family, her church, and her community. She is survived by her two children, a son, Eric and Crystal Gaulden of Donalsonville, GA; a daughter, Sandra and Wally Houston of Alpharetta, GA; two granddaughters, Amanda and David Truesdale of Rock Hill, SC and Anna and Andy Rocker of Atlanta, GA; and four great grandchildren, Hunter and Brittany Truesdale and Parks and Sloan Rocker.  She is also survived by two sisters, Irene Davis of Scottsboro, AL and Gloria Stinnett of Colquitt, GA and many numerous nieces and nephews.  Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Katie Brunson Sanders; her husband, Emmett Gaulden; and her brothers, Marlin Sanders and John Sanders. Arrangements have been entrusted to Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
