HAZEL HUNTER GODWIN

February 4, 1944 — January 20, 2022

Hazel Hunter Godwin, age 77, of Blakely, GA and formerly of Iron City, GA passed away Thursday morning, January 20, 2022 at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Godwin will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Olive Grove Primitive Baptist Church (Rock Pond) in Iron City, GA with Elder Paul Evans officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery with Roger West, Will Mathis, Chason Mathis, Justin Cogland, Roger Trawick, and Kyle Moulton serving as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, January 23, 2022 at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending are asked to maintain social distancing of six feet and/or wear protective masks in accordance with the State of Georgia guidelines. Mrs. Godwin was born in Donalsonville, GA on February 4, 1944 to James Henry Hunter and Lillie Askew Hunter. She was a homemaker and member of Olive Grove Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Godwin loved her family and spending time with them all. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Kent Mathis and Lesa of Iron City, GA, Genell Cogland and George of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Yvonne Parker and Chad of Blakely, GA and her brother, James Ray Hunter and Brenda of Iron City, GA. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Godwin was preceded in death by her parents, James Henry and Lillie Askew Hunter; her husband, Donice Godwin; brothers, William Hunter, Buddy Hunter, and J.H. Hunter; and sister, Geneva Smith.
