JAMES AUSTIN JONES

Mr. James Austin Jones, age 86, of Thomasville, GA passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 24, 2023, in Cullman, AL.

Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held on Monday, May 29, 2023, at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA.  Interment will follow in the Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City, GA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Jones was born in Ozark, AL on April 26, 1937, to James Emmett and Winnie Mae Dixon Jones.  He served his country in the United States Air Force and retired from the retail industry.  Mr. Jones was an avid fisherman and hunter, having bear kills recorded in the Pope and Young Record Book.  He was a member of Rose City Church of God and had served as a deacon of Corinth Freewill Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Penny Kirkland Joiner Jones of Thomasville, GA; his children, Angela Catherman and Bob of San Antonio, TX, Emmett Jones and Catherine of Martin, TN, James Jones and Helen of Rosa, AL, Donna Capps and Chris of Fairbanks, AK, William Jones and Francesca of San Antonio, TX, Mark Joiner and Pam of Smithville, GA, Lem Joiner and Julia of Ochlochnee, GA, and Beth Dowden and Richard of Tallahassee, FL; his sister’s, Mardell Steffen of Weston, FL, Helen Wiggins of Dothan, AL, and Rachel A. Preston Clayton of Pensacola, FL; and his brother, Dave Preston and Linda of Andalusia, AL.  Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, James Emmett Jones and Winnie Mae Dixon Jones; and his first wife, Katrina Ann Chapman Jones.
