Jean Helms

Jun 11, 1945 — Aug 3, 2026

Jean Helms died in her sleep on Monday, August 3, 2026 at her home in Donalsonville, GA.

Born Nancy Jean Ednie on June 11, 1945 in Homestrad, PA to John and Catherine Ednie. She was a 1963 graduate of Munhall High School and a 1969 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. She worked for several years as an office administrator for the State of Connecticut and State College of Florida before retiring in 2013.

She was an avid reader and learner throughout her life; no book, subject, or idea was off-limits. She believed strongly in the power of education to transform lives and was well-known among the student body at State College of Florida for her exhaustive knowledge of, and ability to explain in plain English, the intricacies of federal financial aid regulations.

She is survived by her sister Ellen, her sons Conrad and Preston, her daughter-in-law Becky, and the love of her life, her granddaughter Olivia (10). She was preceded in death by her sisters Shirley and Catherine, and her brother John.

A celebration of life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the general scholarship fund at the institution of choice.
