JERRY PAUL HOUSTON

Jerry Paul Houston, age 77, of Jakin, GA, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Donalsonville Hospital Emergency Room.

Funeral services for Mr. Houston will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Springfield Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville, GA with military honors. Active pallbearers will be Keith Houston, Kevin Houston, Phil Buckhalter, Heath Houston, Cody Buckhalter, and Erick Cooper and American Legion Post 157 of Donalsonville will be serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to American Legion Post 157, PO Box 1044, Donalsonville, GA 39845.

Mr. Houston was born in Blakely, GA on Nov. 7, 1947, to Edward J. (E.J.) and Birdie Pyle Houston. He was a 1965 graduate of Blakely Union and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his military service, Mr. Houston was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He worked for Georgia Pacific-Cedar Springs Mill, retiring after a little over 30 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was a foreman of #3 paper machine. Mr. Houston was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent, as well as held many other positions in the church. As a member of American Legion Post 157, he had held the title of Flag Service Officer for many years. Jerry loved his family, and he was always helping others. He was one of those people who you could count on to go above and beyond in anything he undertook to do. Mr. Houston was a very generous man, well known around the area communities, and a “buddy” and friend to many. His passing will leave a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 30 years, Dianne Williams Houston of Jakin, GA; his children, Renee Houston of Donalsonville, GA, Paul Houston and wife Kathy of Canton, GA, Josh Houston and wife Paige of Casper, WY, and Myles Mosely and wife Adriel of Jakin, GA; his grandchildren, Alex Croom, Jordan McCloud, Conner Houston, Maddox Houston, Anna Myles Mosely, and Lana Houston. Also surviving are his brother, Lang Houston; his sister, Faye Buckhalter and husband Phillip; his sister-in-law, Charlotte Houston; his mother-in-law, JoAnn Williams; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Mr. Houston was preceded in death by his parents, E.J. and Birdie Pyle Houston, as well as two brothers, Glynn Houston and Julian Houston.
