Joseph Randall Mathis, Sr., age 77, of Gordon, AL passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 7, 2020 at Southeast Health in Dothan, AL. Graveside services for Mr. Mathis will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020 at 11:00 EST at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gordon, AL. Mr. Mathis was born in Marianna, FL on Feb. 5, 1943 to Jordan Arlando Mathis and Bonnie Irving Mathis. He served his country in the United States Marines and retired in 2005 from Georgia-Pacific where he had worked as a mechanic. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Gordan; he loved his church and he loved the Lord. Mr. Mathis also enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years, Lonnell Jordan Mathis of Gordon, AL; his son, Randy Mathis and his wife Sandy of Geneva, AL; his daughters, Tammy Parker and her husband Eddy of Echo, AL and Pamela Mathis of Gordon, AL; his grandchildren, James C. Hollingsworth, Ashley Frechette, Tristan Willis, Payton Willis, and Ryan Willis; two brothers, Ronald Mathis of Montgomery, AL and Clifford Mathis of Jacksonville, FL; and a sister, Veleta Paulk of Pansey, AL. Also surviving is his four legged companion whom he loved dearly, Star Mathis. Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by his parents as well as several brothers and a sister.
