JULIA FRANCES "JUJU" HICKSON

Julia Frances Hickson, affectionately known by her friends as JuJu, died at her residence at Southern Pines in Thomasville, Georgia, on December, 18, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She was born on February 27, 1945, in Bainbridge, Georgia, the daughter of Julian Ivan Hickson and Clotie Vic Carter Hickson. Ms. Hickson attended school in Seminole County and graduated valedictorian of her class at SCHS in 1963. She attended Mercer University and after graduation from there, began teaching mathematics at Thomasville High School in 1967. She was a much-loved teacher there for 33 years, retiring in 2000. She earned her Masters degree from Valdosta State University. During her tenure at Thomasville High, Ms. Hickson was the cheerleader sponsor and an ardent supporter of the athletic programs at her school, especially the football team, the Bulldogs. She was also a supporter and sponsor of the Domestic Exchange Program. Ms. Hickson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Donalsonville until she became a resident of Thomasville where she became a member of the Thomasville First Baptist Church and was a lifelong member there Ms. Hickson’s father died when she was five years old. She and her mother, “Miss Vic,” had several close friendships with families in Donalsonville: J.B. and Laurie Clarke, and their children, Brad and Luanne; J.B. and Lallie Jenkins and their children, Judy and Mary Ann; Harold and Isabel Collins and their son Andy; and Mrs. Pauline Newton. Eventually, Julia became a cherished family member of Judy Jenkins Jones and husband Walter and their twin girls, Lisa and Leslie. A memorial service will be held for Ms. Hickson on December 29 in the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 10:00 A. M. and service beginning at 11:00 A.M.
