We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Lenard A King, age 89, of Donalsonville, GA, who passed away Thursday, May 21,2026 at Southeast Health Hospital in Dothan, AL.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jimmy Walden officiating.
He was born in Bainbridge GA to Jesse Glen King and Ethel Lee Lynn King. Allen (Al) was a patriot, serving his country faithfully for over 28 years. At 19, He enlisted in the Army and served in France from 1956 to 1959. He married the love of his life, Christine Thursby King, upon his return to the states. At the time of her death in 2009, they were married for fifty years. He worked many years at Willis Motor Company in Bainbridge GA before enlisting in the Navy Seabee’s in 1965 at the age of 29. He had served in Vietnam, Azores Portugal, Port Hueneme CA, Antarctica, Pensacola FL, Gulfport MS, Rota Spain, and Okinawa Japan. He received numerous medals and citations for his exemplary service. He retired in 1988 as a Senior Chief.
Al was an accomplished marksman. He was a member of the US Navy Skeet Shooting Team competing in numerous Armed Forces and World Skeet shooting competitions.He won many awards, metals, and shot guns. He was inducted into the Armed Forces Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 1997. He was an avid bird and quail hunter, training his beloved German Shorthaired pointers. Mr. King also had an immense love for baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. After his decorated military career, he and Christine “retired” to farm life in Southwest Georgia. Together, they planted over 700 pecan trees on their family farm.
He is proceeded in death by his wife Christine Thursby King; his parents, his brothers: Brewster King, Denmark King, Grover King, and Raymond King; his sisters: Sadie King Hargraves, Eloise King Connell, Edith King, and Onez King Lee.
Survivors include his only child, Teresa King Dillon, her husband Paul, his only granddaughter, Skylar Alyssa Christine Dillon, her husband Colin Huddell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
