Lois Willis Thomas, age 98, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Saturday evening, May 26, 2018 at Donalsonville Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM at First Church of the Nazarene in Donalsonville with Rev. Scott Messer officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens with Brad Downing, Blake Downing, Chad Downing, Randy King, Randy Herndon, and Brinson Register serving as active casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be Edward Whittaker, Brit Barnes, and Homer Breckenridge. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM at the church. At other times the family will be receiving friends at the home of Peggy and Bobby Downing. Mrs. Thomas was born in Blakely, GA on October 11, 1919 to Alva Willis and Sallie Williams Willis. She worked for many years in retail sales, most noted for the time she spent at The Surprise Store, B&K Department Store, and her own store Lois’ Casuals. Mrs. Lois was also a familiar face as the greeter at Hardees for several years. She enjoyed being involved with church activities, serving as a Boy Scout Den Mother and Sunday School teacher. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Peggy Downing and Bobby of Donalsonville, GA and John Thomas of Donalsonville, GA; her grandchildren, Chad Downing, Brad Downing and Erin, and Blake Downing and Ashley; as well as her great grandchildren, Brantley Downing, Baylor Downing, Paxton Downing, Barrett Downing, Brock Downing, and Kaleigh Downing. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Alva Willis and Sallie Williams Willis; her husband, John Ashley “Buck” Thomas; and 13 siblings. Arrangements have been entrusted to Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
