Mackie Joseph Pickett passed away on June 14, 2023, in his home in Donalsonville, Georgia. No services are planned at this time. He was born in Dallas, Georgia on November 12, 1950. He lived in various states due to being an Air Force Brat to include Georgia, Delaware, and Florida.
He was a man of many talents, but he was born with a God given gift with animals, gardening and working with his hands. He retired from Harvey’s Grocery after a life-long career of being a butcher/meat cutter. He spent many years training young men the art of making specialized cuts of meat for customers. He received numerous career awards and his customers loved and respected him.
His greatest accomplishment was his daughter Amber, being a college graduate and his grandchildren kept a smile on his face.
Mackie had a natural way with animals, especially his dog, Baby, and with all aspects of nature. He was an avid fisherman, hunter of wild game and enjoyed gigging turtles. In addition, he was a master gardener who loved sharing his crops with local churches to help feed senior citizens and families. He was known for being a master mechanic and could fix anything that needed to be fixed. He helped a lot of people with this gift throughout his life.
He was an avid college football fan and a Number One “Gator Man”! You could hear him yell, “Go Gators” a mile away during every game.
Mackie was proceeded in death by his son, Mackie Jr., daughter, Lori, his brother, Rickie, his parents, and his dog, Precious.
He is survived by his best friend and daughter, Amber Davis, her husband Luke, two beautiful grandchildren, Mason and Aspen Davis of Bainbridge, Georgia. Dennis and Anna and their children. Two sisters, Mary Peoples, Harriet Taylor and one brother, Davey Pickett all of Panama City, Florida and two special brothers-in-law, Kenny Taylor and Eugene Peoples, also from Panama City, Florida and his special dog, Baby.
His sense of humor, the wisdom he freely shared and the love he showed to his family and friends will truly be missed. He was a “One of a Kind Good Man”.
Fly High Mackie, you are missed and will never be forgotten!
