Margaret Odessa Morehead Breedlove, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on May 22, 2023 at Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama, after a brief illness. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to so many throughout her long and blessed life.
Ms. Breedlove was born on July 22, 1932 to Marshall and Buford Morehead in Huntington, West Virginia, the 2nd of 3 girls. She was raised in the Presbyterian Church there and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. After graduation from Huntington East High School, she worked as a bookkeeper before marrying Emory Breedlove of Opp, Alabama in 1950. They moved to New York and enjoyed life together in various cities up and down the east coast, wherever his job with Tomkins-Beckwith Contracting took them. She was mainly a homemaker while raising her 2 children in Jacksonville, but went on to pursue her degree in Special Education at the University of New Orleans and later worked as the bookkeeper at Harris County High School in Hamilton, GA when they retired to Pine Mountain, GA.
A ”social butterfly”, Margaret always became actively involved wherever they lived, including serving in various capacities in the United Methodist Church with children’s ministries, missions, and choir; PTA; Brownies; bridge clubs; quilting; collecting and dealing in antiques; and later joining the Threads of Love sewing group at Donalsonville First Presbyterian Church. She was a gifted artist in oil and acrylic painting, an avid reader, traveler, and charming hostess at many dinner parties and family gatherings. She loved people and always had a positive spirit and eagerness to learn, even as her health declined in recent years.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Lynn Whittle and husband, Carl, of Donalsonville and son, Marshall Breedlove and wife, JoLynn, of Metairie, LA; grandchildren, Zack Bridges and wife Amber of Tolar, TX, Jenny Teasley and husband Chris of Byram MS, Michael Breedlove and wife Jennifer of Metairie, LA, and Maggie Bridges of Ft. Worth, TX; great-grandchildren, Joseph Teasley, Eva Teasley, Alli Bridges, Grey Breedlove, Jeremy Teasley, Rocket Breedlove, Crew Breedlove, Fox Breedlove, Edie Breedlove and Tristan Bridges.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including her beloved nephew, Andy Minton, and beloved niece, Molly Lane.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, Emory Breedlove; and sister Julia Minton and husband Norman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 4:00 PM at Donalsonville First Presbyterian Church. The family will gather for a private family interment on October 21, 2023 at Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery in Pine Mountain Valley, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Donalsonville First Presbyterian Church or St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
