Mary Lou Rathel Covington, age 99, of Colquitt, GA passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at her residence.   Mary was born in September 26, 1918 to John Henry Rathel and Rachel Turner Rathel in Miller County Georgia. This “little brown eyed girl” was welcomed home by her four brothers; Charlie, Jim, Leroy, and Horace. Later a sister Ruth and brothers Murphy and James. At the age of 23, she married Elmer F. Covington at the courthouse in Bainbridge, GA. Shortly after they made Miller County their home. Mary was called Mary Jane by her husband and she mostly worked around their farm. She was an excellent wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a member of New Home Freewill Baptist Church.   She is survived by three sons, Franklin E. Covington (Kathy) of Grantville, GA, Bobby J. Covington (Connie) of Pleasanton, TX, Charlie M. Covington (Joyce) of Villa Rica, GA and her daughter Nell C. Kimbrell of Colquitt, GA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Chuck, Robert (Heather), Danny, John (Gwen), Frankie (Nikki), Christopher, Tracy Cassell, Karen Daniels (Mel), Melissa Whitley (Jesse) and her great grandchildren, Tara, Christopher, Nicholas, Casey, Shania, Shera, Chad, Cam Ron, Kendall, John Jr., Maddy, Jacob, Carlie, Robbie Cassell, Joshua Goldman, Sara Beth Goldman, Kaitlyn Whitley, Camaryn and Landon Sawyer, Chris Whitley and Zack Whitley, also ten great-great grandchildren.   Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Cory Thomas and Rev. Wayne Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow New Home Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Chuck Covington, Robert Covington, Danny Covington, John Covington, Frankie Covington, and Chris Covington serving as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be Adrian Lovering, Don Chandler, Wallace Phillips,         Tim Allen, Jerome Tomberline. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.   Evans-Skipper Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
