MARY BATCHELOR ODOM

April 6, 1951 — May 4, 2024

DONALSONVILLE

Mary Elizabeth Batchelor Odom, age 73, of Donalsonville, GA passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Nolan Hospital in Dothan, AL.

Graveside services for Ms. Odom will be held on Wednesday afternoon, May 8, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Rusty Bradley officiating.  Burial will follow immediately after the service. The family request that memorial donations be made to The Good Samaritan Cancer Fund PO Box 5609 Dothan, AL 36302.

Ms. Odom was born in Donalsonville, GA on April 6, 1951, to Itson and Dixie Johnson Batchelor.

She graduated from Seminole County High School in 1969 and attended Wallace College where she received her nursing degree and had many wonderful memories working at Seminole Memorial Hospital.  From there, she began work at Farley Nuclear Plant in Quality Control and made lifelong friends there and when she transferred to the plant in Sanford, NC.   She returned home to help care for her mother, who had Alzheimer’s.  She married Wayne Odom and in 1988, she gave birth to her daughter, Brittany. During Brittany’s 2nd-5th grade years, she worked at Seminole County Elementary School, helping out in Pam Bridges’ 1st grade class.   She enjoyed crafts and woodwork and was very creative and skilled at everything she did. In 2012, Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through a mastectomy, chemo, and radiation and was able to stay cancer free.  

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Brittany, who was her best friend and constant caregiver from 2012 until her passing.  She also leaves to cherish her memory, her nephews, Kenneth Batchelor of Murfreesboro, TN, Trent Batchelor and his wife Amy of Donalsonville, GA, and Todd Batchelor and wife Molly of Gray, GA; and a niece, Martha Ann Batchelor of Nashville, TN.  Also surviving are several cousins, great nephews and nieces; and her sister-in-law, Carolyn Batchelor, as well as numerous friends and her sweet “grand-dog” Bella. She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved her.

Ms. Odom was preceded in death by her parents, Itson and Dixie Johnson Batchelor; her brothers, Charles Batchelor and Terry Batchelor; and her sister, Jerry Batchelor who passed away as an infant; her sister-in-law, Martha Batchelor; and Brittany’s father, Wayne Odom.
