MILDRED REGAN YELVINGTON

March 21, 1928 — January 3, 2019

Mildred Decima Yelvington passed away in Donalsonville the morning of the 3rd of January 2019.  She was widowed from her husband, Richard Yelvington in 2015. At the time of her passing, she was 90 years of age. She was a woman of small 5 ft statue but enormous courage. This is not an obituary. Instead it’s a new chapter of a continuing love story between her and her husband. Mildred was affectionately nicknamed Deckie. Born in 1928 in Miller county, she was the daughter of William and Sybil Reagan. Upon   graduating from high school, she immediately left home and took a bus to Albany where she earned a degree in business. Upon graduating, she left the next day and took a bus to Atlanta GA. Getting off the bus in Atlanta, she stopped a police officer and told him that she needed to find a rooming house for girls and that he needed to escort her. The police officer took one look at her determined face and helped her find a house. She found a job immediately as an executive secretary in a large department store. Her first day on the job, one of her bosses laid his hand on her shoulder and told her they were going to be good friends. She promptly told him that her father had taught her how to skin deer with a skinning knife and he needed to remove his hand, or he was going to lose it. He never bothered her again. She met her future husband, Richard Yelvington, Sr, who had just returned from action in Japan and the Philippines, in 1947. They were married 3 months later. They had a son, Steven Regan Yelvington in 1948 and another son, Richard Yelvington, Jr in 1952. Anyone who ever met them, always commented on how perfectly matched they were as husband and wife. There were very few times they would walk apart without holding hands. My brother and I write this in the knowledge that our mother, Mildred and our father, Richard taught us that love has no boundaries or limits, it simply is. Knowing that these two exceptional people would not want to be apart and knowing that they were both born again Christians, we rest in the assurance that somehow and some way, they will find each other for an endless slow dance. Our mother gave us her love, her patience, her time, her wisdom, her understanding and lead by example.  A memorial service will take place at Bethel Cemetery 4370 Hwy 272 West Jakin, GA at 2.00 o clock January 20th, 2019 where our mothers ashes will be buried next to her beloved husband. Signed.  Richard Yelvington Jr. and Steve Yelvington.
