Phyllis Hagler, age 80, passed away Monday morning, February 23, 2026, at her home in Bascom, Florida. Phyllis was born on April 19, 1945, in Alford, Florida. She graduated from Marianna High School and Chipola College before attending Florida State University.
She met Charles Hagler in 1963 at Henry’s Sweet Shop. That sweet beginning grew into a 61-year marriage. While she spoke proudly of her daughter, Scarlett, her three grandchildren, and her two great-grandchildren, her family knows they were the ones truly blessed by her unwavering love across three generations.
Phyllis devoted much of her life to Malone School, where she began working in 1976. Even as she paused her career to help raise grandchildren and later great-grandchildren, her heart remained with Malone School — a place she would always return to — until her retirement in 2015. The Malone Tigers were her extended family, and she took particular pride in her work with the school library.
Phyllis Hagler was preceded in death by Doris and Lester Glick; Stan Morse; Tally and Zoa Kent; Calvin Stanley and Lessie Mae Morse.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Charles Hagler; her daughter and son-in-law, Scarlett and Holt Floyd; her grandchildren, Kacee Floyd, Karlee Floyd and Dillon Burnsed, and Harrison and Ruby Floyd; her great-grandchildren, JC Pittman and Harvey Burnsed; her sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Jim McGowan; her step-mother, Toi Morse, and her beloved friends, Sandy Helms, Ezel and Marvin Lassiter, Asa Wiklund, and Karin Morris.
A memorial graveside service at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Bascom, Florida, will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Malone School Library – a place that reflected so much of Phyllis’s heart for students and lifelong learning. An account has been established at Jackson County 1st Credit Union in Phyllis’s honor to receive contributions.
