Rev. Douglas L. Harvey, age 93, of Jakin, GA, passed away Monday morning, July 27, 2026, at Seminole Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services for Rev. Harvey will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Friendship Methodist Church with Rev. George Masciarelli and Rev. James Scarborough officiating. Interment will follow in the Harvey Family Cemetery with members of the Webb/Walker Sunday School Class serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM at the church.
Rev. Harvey was born in Brunson, SC on June 24, 1933 to John Quitman Harvey and Mattielou Branan Harvey. He served his country in the United States Army and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from the University of Georgia. Rev. Harvey engaged in farming and served as Vice-President of Harvey Implement Company, before becoming a minister.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Douglas Branan Harvey of Jakin, GA, Sarah Harvey Avery of Jakin, GA, and Rebecca Harvey Luke and husband Rodney of Valdosta, GA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, George Quitman Avery of Valdosta, GA and Adair Elizabeth Carter of Valdosta, GA, as well as several nephews and nieces.
Rev. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, John Quitman Harvey and Mattielou Branan Harvey; his wife, Jackie Harvey; three sisters, Virginia Harvey, Elsie Cannon, and Beverly Hartman; and a brother, Joseph Harvey.
