SAMMY JOE BAKER

Sammy Joe Baker, age 85, of Donalsonville, GA, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Seminole Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Baker will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Hubert Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens with Steve Baker, Bill Mercer, Corey Mercer, Brian Chambles, Chris Miller, and Cain Tedder serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Kovacs, Lamar Jones, Mike Baker, Bill Baker, Jamie Baker, Henry Chambles, and Ryan Welch. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.

Mr. Baker was born in Donalsonville, GA on January 3, 1941, to Cleveland Baker and Winnie Luvenia Faircloth Baker. He retired from Georgia Pacific as a crane operator in the woodyard, but for many years he not only worked at the mill but farmed as well. Mr. Baker enjoyed riding horses and motorcycles, along with enjoying fishing and camping. Watching westerns on TV, especially Gene Autry and John Wayne shows, was one of his favorite ways to spend his indoor time. Spending time with family and friends was of utmost importance.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Gloria Williams and her husband Anthony, Sandra Harden and her husband Wayne, and Steve Baker, as well as his grandchildren, Justin Williams, Roxanne Hyde and her husband Jeremy, Gracie Baker, Kayla Whitley and her husband Chris, Brandon Tedder and his wife Colleen, and Cain Tedder. Also surviving are his great grandchildren, Mya Vickers, Levi Vickers, Laila Whitley, Waylon Whitley, Willin Whitley, and Letty Whitley.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland Baker and Winnie Luvenia Faircloth Baker; his wife, Faye Baker, a son, Joey Baker; grandsons, Allen Williams, Dylan Harden, and Corey Tedder; his daughter-in-law, Deanna Baker; and three brothers, James Baker, Cullen Baker, and Luther Baker.
